Open Circulation Guidelines
Open circulation is the time when students come to exchange books they have finished reading on days that are NOT their normal library day. Open circulation this year is from 9:00-9:25am. I am usually at the checkout desk working to check out students as fast as I can. Students should know to come in and get their next book as independently as possible and avoid socialization. I also take money for lost books during open circulation and this can slow down checkout.
What I hope will make things go faster:
Thanks, Mrs. Allen
How teachers make their student’s open circulation card:
An open circulation card is a separate card from the students class library card that is kept in the library. Essentially it is the homeroom teacher’s copy. On an index card, write the students name on the top line. Place the barcode in the center and tape it down or you can laminate the entire card. On the bottom write their Lexile level from iReady or AR level if you know it.

What I hope will make things go faster:
- Students must have an open circulation card or they will be sent back to class. The barcode I give you makes the check out process go faster.
- Please only send 2 students per class at a time this limits the amount of students in the library at one time.
- Lots of students think they can come to open circulation to socialize. I will send back students not on task to find a good book. If they do not follow the rules of the school/library they will be sent back to class.
