Entering the Library
Exiting the Library
- Come in without sound.
- All classes place your book on the return cart with the spine up and the barcode at the bottom. If a student wants to renew a book, place it on the counter (bar) with their library card on top.
- K-3rd sit on a circle on the rug and wait for the story and lesson.
- 4th-5th sit in assigned seats at the tables (seating charts are written on the inside back of the teacher folder) and wait for lesson or film.
- K-3 have a lesson/story read on the carpet, then they are released by gender (girls or boys) to get their shelf marker and check out books.
- First Semester-- Kindergarten does not check out, first grade only checks out one book and the other grades may have two books at a time.
- Second Semester- Kindergarten may have one book and first grade may now have two books.
- Students remain silent during the lesson. They are allowed to talk in an indoor voice while looking for books. No horseplay or running allowed. Once they check out they return to the carpet to read silently. If they behave nicely they may lay down on the carpet to read.
- Grades 4-5th have a lesson/video at assigned seats at tables. There a small “file” next to the rocking chair with manila folders with teachers names on the tab. In the inside, back flap is the seating chart. Student should work on centers until it is their turn to get their shelf markers. They are released one or two tables at a time to look for books. Students remain silent during the lesson. They are allowed to talk in an indoor voice while looking for books. No horseplay or running allowed. Once they check out they return to their seat to read silently or work on centers.
Exiting the Library
- The quietest students or groups are dismissed first either by gender (boys/girls) or table number.
- Students who sit at the tables and should push in their chairs.
- Students enter through one door and exit through the other.
- Students line up at the exit door in the order the classroom teacher wants them. They must be silent and in a straight line.
- Use walking feet!
